ARTIST
OPPORTUNITY
Application deadline: 29 February 2012
We are currently
looking to commission an artist on behalf of Sustrans Cymru for
a public art project adjacent to the Llynfi Valley Cycle Trail
and Maesteg Comprehensive School. The project aims to connect
users of the trail with the environment of the Llynfi valley.
The site lends
itself to the use of natural materials, planting and the possible
re-distribution, addition or sculpting of some of the land surface
itself. Sustainability and the environment are key aspects of
the project and the appointed artist would have these concepts
as a primary concern in their own creative practice.
Budget:
In the region of £45,000

ABOUT US
Formed
in 2010, Elbow Room is a cooperative of three creative practitioners
dedicated to providing the space, capacity and opportunity to
make and experience art in the public realm.
Working primarily with visual artists, communities and private and
public sector partners, our focus is to develop creative activity
in public spaces through a collaborative, open and engaged approach.
We aim to advocate for and forward contemporary practice and thinking
in the field of art in the public realm through projects that encourage
exploratory approaches to the integration of art into 'everyday
life'. We also endeavour to provide development opportunities and
support for emerging artists interested in working in the public
domain to keep the field fresh, sustainable and progressive.
Elbow Room is based in Wales. We intend to contribute principally
to the cultivation and enhancement of the creative environment of
Wales but are open to building relationships through project work
beyond Wales, particularly where there are possibilities to progress
connections between Wales-based creative practitioners and those
based elsewhere.
We hope to inspire and create debate by initiating and delivering
opportunities, projects, events, talks, seminars, publications and
critical writing.
Elbow Room's Co-Directors are Nia Metcalfe, Cinzia Mutigli and Walt
Warrilow.
Elbow Room Projects is a company limited by Guarantee
and registered in England and Wales, number 7400072.
Elbow Room Projects is a not-for-profit organisation, with charitable
aims and objectives and a registered Co-operative with cooperative
values and ethos, Co-operatives UK number Elb211447.
